The Remtron Roadshow rolled into Mackay the other week at the Boomerang Hotel (the boomy), and it was a good one.

Plenty of familiar faces, some new ones, and a few bits of shiny Schneider Electric gear that caught my eye. Always great to see where industrial tech is heading, especially the stuff that makes life easier on-site.

I had a good chat with Shane from Remtron, who likes to call me “his second favourite System Integrator.” (Still waiting to find out who's number one, they must be an amazing S.I. :D)

He’s one of those vendors who actually picks up the phone, gets you the info you need, and if it’s not his department, he’ll point you straight to the right person. That kind of support makes a real difference.

Also great to catch up with Lester Pinto (all the way from Melbourne), who’s helped me out more than once with Schneider, IoT gear, and AVEVA PlantSCADA licensing. Always good to put faces to the names behind the email threads.

And I finally met Shaun O'Loughlin from SO Electrical, someone I’ve heard about in Mackay’s electrical circles for decades. Now I can say firsthand why he’s so well respected.

Shane and I also talked about a project for a client that was looking to automate a dozer e-stop for coal valve closures on stockpiles to help prevent dozer falls and subsequent operator engulfment, something that took me back to a system I built years ago using GPS receivers integrated with a GE / Emerson PLC over Modbus, running live polygon-based positioning inside the control logic.

All up, a great event. Thanks again to Remtron for hosting and keeping these conversations going in regional Queensland.
