Australian Power Equipment: 66kV Switchroom PLC Upgrade

Client Overview

Australian Power Equipment (APE) specialises in providing proven power equipment solutions for large-scale mining operations. APE had a very short turn-around requirement for the end user, and was delivering a critical 66kV Switchroom for the Mammoth Underground Mine in Blackwater. Beetle Engineering & Automation was asked for assistance and in just a few days was able to provide Automation services to upgrade the PLC system before shipping to the new underground Coal Mine.

The Challenge

The existing system relied on a GE Controller, which was reaching the end of its lifecycle. APE needed to upgrade to a Rockwell Controller while maintaining operational continuity and compatibility with the switchroom's existing infrastructure.

Our Solution

Beetle Engineering & Automation worked closely with APE to deliver the following:

  • System Upgrade: Transitioned from a GE Controller to a Rockwell Controller, ensuring improved performance and scalability.
  • Programming & Integration: Configured and tested the new CPU to integrate seamlessly with the switchroom's systems.
  • Validation: Conducted thorough testing to verify functionality and ensure reliability under operational conditions.

Results

  • Delivered a modernised control system capable of meeting the mine’s growing demands.
  • Improved system reliability and reduced maintenance requirements.
  • Ensured seamless integration with existing infrastructure.
