Emerson PACSystems in Queensland’s industrial sector
Emerson PACSystems PLCs (previously branded as GE Automation) appear across a range of Central Queensland industrial applications - water and wastewater treatment infrastructure for local councils, utilities on mining sites, and food processing and manufacturing operations across the region.
The GE Series 90-30 and 90-70 platforms were the workhorse of GE industrial automation for many years and are still running on a number of CQ sites. Emerson has moved the current product range to PACSystems RX3i and RX7i with Proficy Machine Edition as the unified engineering environment - these are the platforms being specified for new installations and upgrade projects.
Proficy Machine Edition
Proficy Machine Edition (PME) is Emerson’s unified engineering environment covering PACSystems RX3i and RX7i PLC programming, HMI configuration, and network setup. It handles PACSystems controllers, VersaMax distributed I/O, and QuickPanel+ HMI panels in a single project environment.
Legacy GE Series 90 systems can be converted in Proficy Machine Edition, which is the typical starting point for migration projects. The conversion requires careful review - tag names, I/O configuration, and program structure all need verification - but it gives a starting point for the RX3i replacement program.
Proficy iFIX and CIMPLICITY HMI and SCADA
Proficy iFIX and CIMPLICITY cover Emerson’s HMI and SCADA products from QuickPanel+ touchscreen HMIs through to PC-based SCADA. We develop and modify iFIX and CIMPLICITY projects across this range as part of PLC and control system work, and as standalone HMI improvement projects.
