Schneider Electric across Queensland industry
Schneider Electric Modicon PLCs appear across a wide range of Queensland industrial applications — from Modicon M340 and M580 on newer mining and processing installations through to legacy Quantum systems that have been running continuously for decades at coal mines, sugar mills, and water utilities.
The platform naming has evolved over time. Unity Pro is now EcoStruxure Control Expert. Concept was the programming environment for older Quantum systems and is no longer actively developed but remains relevant for sites that have not yet migrated. Understanding the version history and the migration paths between platforms is essential for working effectively on the installed base.
Recent project experience
Carmichael Coal Train Loadout — EcoStruxure Control Expert and CitectSCADA commissioning — commissioning engineer on the Adani Carmichael train loadout facility, one of the largest recent greenfield coal infrastructure projects in Queensland. Schneider Electric EcoStruxure Control Expert PLC systems integrated with CitectSCADA for loadout automation and train management.
Glencore multiple sites — Modicon M340, M580, Quantum, Unity Pro and Concept — ongoing PLC programming, fault support, and control system work across multiple Glencore Bowen Basin coal operations running the full range of Modicon platforms from legacy Quantum/Concept through to current M340 and M580 systems in Control Expert.
BMA Caval Ridge and Peak Downs — Quantum and M580 — control systems work at BHP Mitsubishi Alliance coal handling and processing plant sites running Modicon Quantum and M580 platforms.
Mackay Sugar — M340 systems — PLC programming and support on Modicon M340 control systems across Mackay Sugar mill plant.
KSG/Sugar Australia loader — Modicon M251 replacement — control system replacement on sugar loader equipment, migrating from an end-of-life Modicon M251 to a current platform with updated control logic and improved fault visibility.
SCADAPack for water and rural telemetry
SCADAPack RTUs sit in a distinct part of the Schneider Electric product range — compact, hardened controllers designed for remote and distributed applications where a full-size PLC is not appropriate. They are widely used across Queensland water utility networks, irrigation pump stations, and rural telemetry applications.
We program SCADAPack controllers in Telepace Studio and ISaGRAF, configure communications over serial, radio, and cellular links, and integrate SCADAPack sites into centralised SCADA platforms. For water utilities migrating from aging SCADAPack installations, we assess the existing RTU configuration, document the current logic, and manage the replacement process with minimal disruption to the telemetry network.
