The situation
Australian Power Equipment purchased a second-hand 11kV switchroom — previously installed at the Crinum Mine — for recommissioning at Coronado’s Mammoth Underground Mine. The existing Allen Bradley PLC, CitectSCADA industrial touch screen PC, and FactoryTalk View ME HMI were all obsolete. Modifications to the switchboard for the new site meant the PLC, HMI, and SCADA all required updating, with all references to the previous site removed.
Our approach
- Performed system discovery to retrieve existing PLC, HMI, SCADA, and relay program backups from the old hardware.
- Upgraded the Allen Bradley PLC hardware firmware and migrated the PLC program to the latest supported software version, incorporating all Mammoth Mine modifications and removing legacy site references.
- Migrated the CitectSCADA program to AVEVA PlantSCADA, updating for the new site configuration.
- Retrieved and upgraded the FactoryTalk View ME HMI, modifying to suit the new switchboard.
- Configured protection relay settings and communications mappings.
- Developed FAT documentation and completed Factory Acceptance Testing at Oracle Industries workshop.
Outcome
The fully upgraded switchroom control system — PLC, SCADA, HMI, and all relay communications — was delivered, tested, and documented ready for installation at Mammoth Underground Mine. Australian Power Equipment received a complete ITC documentation package, I/O list, and all program backups.
