The situation
This Mackay-based industrial equipment OEM supports multiple operational sites across the region, each with proprietary process control equipment installed. The business faced a critical coverage gap during their Lead Engineer’s leave periods — without qualified PCS support on standby, any site fault or system issue carried significant operational risk. They needed a trusted engineering partner who could seamlessly step in, maintain situational awareness across all sites, and respond rapidly to any PLC, HMI, RTU, or SCADA issue.
Our approach
Beetle Engineering provides structured PCS support and on-call coverage aligned to the client’s lead engineer leave schedule:
- In-person handover sessions with the departing Lead Engineer prior to each leave period, ensuring full awareness of active works, known issues, and site system states.
- In-person support days at the client’s Mackay office during the coverage period.
- On-call standby 6am–10pm, seven days a week, with a guaranteed 30-minute phone response time.
- Remote PLC, HMI, RTU, and SCADA support as required — fault-finding, development, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Formal support request documentation for every task, with copies provided to the client.
Outcome
Beetle Engineering has been re-engaged for multiple leave coverage periods across consecutive years. The arrangement gives the client confidence that their sites are covered by a competent, responsive engineering resource throughout leave periods — without the cost or complexity of a permanent hire.
